Jennifer John is a creative dynamo. Her musical talents are many and varied and her list of achievements demonstrate the breadth and depth of her abilities and ambitions.
Whether as Business Woman of the Year for Arts and Culture, the co founder of award-winning music company Sense of Sound and manager of its namesake – Sense of Sound Singers, the stunning a cappella ensemble – her work is exemplary.
The beginnings of her musical life began as a child in the east end of London. As a member of Newham Academy of Music where she studied violin, piano and voice, she discovered a passion for classical music. When she migrated to Liverpool in 1983 she discovered jazz. She won a place at Mabel Fletcher college, and it was there that she discovered a natural ability to improvise vocally and also started to think of her voice more as a musical instrument. Her gradual transition from pop and jazz bands into the world of a cappella singing saw her as a member of various vocal ensembles, including The Descendants, whose appearance on iconic show TheTube earned her a reputation for being a distinctive singer.
There are no limits to Jennifer John’s talents. She is a singer/songwriter, performer, choir director, vocal arranger, teacher, workshop leader, mentor, manager and business woman.
She brings a contagious passion and energy to all of her work and believes strongly that singing is a universal language that encourages community cohesion and healthy collaborations.
Jennifer says: "It's one of the magical gifts in life that easily unites us socially, creatively and spiritually. People love to sing in all kinds of scenarios and the natural resonance that group singing creates guides people into a safe familiarity and closeness that stays with them profoundly even when the singing has stopped. People who sing together especially in choirs become families of choice and it's powerful. My aim, through the creation and development of singing initiatives and projects, is to bring people and communities together naturally and joyfully."
"...Think Massive Attack, Lamb, Lali Puna, Mo' Wax, Ninja Tune or even Morr Music and you are on the right track. Tight knit funk, beat-box, Hammond organs, double bass, and angelic vocals - it's all here wrapped up in some terrific songs. Do not miss."

- Terence Davies, Film Director
Creative and overseeing projects is my passion and I have been involved in many, ranging from: leading on and achieving recognition by The Guinness Book of World Records for the most people singing The Beatles' Love Love Me Do in a round; through to BBC Worldwide annual conference projects with large numbers of choirs and musicians coming together to deliver spectacular events that focus around choral singing and mainstream TV brands (eg Doctor Who, Wolf Hall etc) and everything in between. My skills lie in the recruitment of the choirs/singers, programming the musical and artistic content, overseeing the rehearsal schedules and, when required, conducting the final events.
Jennifer and a strong creative team organise large-scale massed singing events in Liverpool, incorporating choirs from across Merseyside and the Wirral.
If you are a member of a choir and would like to be added to the mailing list for inclusion in future events please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
I wanted to say how epic Wolf Hall was ... All the different choirs and choir directors were amazing and there was a lovely togetherness and vibe amongst everyone. Everyone was buzzing. Congratulations and thank you!!
The choirs on the steps of St. George's Hall were amazing! None of this would have been possible without your support, direction, professionalism and maybe a little glitter!
Dear Jennifer, We would like to pass on our sincere thanks for the tremendous work you put into the Hillsborough event at St. George’s Hall, which was an overwhelming success. The event was so well received by the families and the public who attended and the positive media coverage once again showed how this city comes together in unity ... Thank you again for all your hard work in creating such a special occasion for Liverpool.
I just wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU for your magnificence at the weekend. Your talk was fascinating.
So thank you sooooooooooooooooo much for all your hard work, persuasion skills, and having that calm lovely way about you that helped create this event and making it the success it was.
Thanks so much for coming along to work with us ... everyone really enjoyed it and we learnt a lot. We felt inspired and energised and our Saturday gig went better than usual!
Jennifer is an outstanding vocal facilitator. She instantly inspires trust and focus in a group that she has only just met; creating an environment where all singers feel safe and empowered to explore their voices and express themselves. With a skilled hand and open mind, she takes the group on a journey; ranging from those anxious about using their voice for the first time to experienced singers and vocal practitioners. I learnt so much from watching her work. We didn't want the session to end!
All of the choirs sounded amazing and you helped make the evening truly magical and impactful for all of our guests. I'm not sure if you're aware but that the Exec. Producer and Production Team were in the audience and they absolutely loved the performance! “o ignored o ignored”. Also a personal thank you from me for turning a spark of an idea (via a long distance conversation with Jennifer!) into a reality. It was a beautiful performance, that may have just brought a tear to my eye.
Wow, THANK YOU so much Jennifer! This AMAZING opportunity and experience is all down to you and what you have fostered and created over the years and for my part I am sincerely grateful and overjoyed to have been a part of it all. It was INSPIRED, LIFE AFFIRMING and so necessary for me after such a long time away from being apart of such wonderful ensemble.
I've known Jennifer John for many years and I knew she was a good singer/ arranger but when I worked with her I realised she was a little bit better than just good, she's a natural!
